Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has commended his nephew, Afrobeats star Davido, for projecting the Adeleke family name and Osun State globally.
The commendation came after Davido’s performance at the 2026 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California.
His set on the Gobi Stage featured a traditional Yoruba panegyric, or oríkì, celebrating Ede, his hometown in Osun.
Governor Adeleke shared a video of the stage introduction on X, showing red-and-yellow visuals, pyrotechnics, and synchronised performers as the oríkì was delivered.
He described the performance as a proud moment for the family, the state, and their heritage. He said Davido was placing Osun State and the family on the global map.
“Another proud moment. My nephew @davido is putting the family, our heritage, and state on the global map,” the governor posted.
Davido was the only Nigerian artist on the official 2026 Coachella line-up. He performed fan favourites including Dami Duro, Skelewu, Aye, if, and With You.
He also performed with Adekunle Gold, joining him on stage for their hit single High.
