The Ojotumoro of Abigi in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area of Ogun State, Oba Olusegun Dolapo Ogunye has been appointed Chairman of the Day for the maiden edition of the Eyo Carnival in Iperu Remo, scheduled for April 25, 2026.
The announcement was made by the Eyo Iperu Carnival Committee in a statement issued on Tuesday by the head of Media and Strategy Unit, Comrade Azeez Akinbowale.
The statement described the appointment as part of efforts to reaffirm Iperu Remo’s historical position as the origin of the revered Eyo cultural heritage.
Oba Ogunye, a legal practitioner and retired banker who served with First Bank of Nigeria Plc, is expected to bring his experience and cultural influence to the historic event. He is married to Olori Adefunke Ogunye, a native of Iperu Remo, a development the committee noted further strengthens ties between Iperu and the Ijebu axis.
Reacting to his appointment, the monarch commended the committee for its commitment to preserving and projecting what he described as the authentic history of the Eyo tradition. He said the initiative would help enlighten a global audience on the true roots of the cultural heritage.
Oba Ogunye expressed appreciation for the honour and pledged his support and presence at the carnival, assuring solidarity with the people of Iperu Remo in what he termed a landmark cultural renaissance.
He also congratulated indigenes of Iperu Remo and residents of Ogun State on the forthcoming event, describing it as a significant step towards promoting cultural preservation, unity, and regional pride.
The Eyo Carnival Iperu 2026 is expected to showcase the richness and enduring legacy of the Eyo tradition.
