The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old man over alleged impersonation and an attempted robbery involving a toy pistol.
The Command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Katsina on Monday.
According to Sadiq-Aliyu, the suspect was arrested after the police received a report at about 7 p.m. on August 22 that a man was allegedly chasing another person while pointing what appeared to be a pistol at him in an attempt to rob him.
“Consequently, in collaboration with members of the local vigilante group, police operatives swiftly responded and arrested the suspect at about 8:00 p.m. at Kofar Sauri, Katsina,” he said.
The police spokesman added that a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a black toy pistol.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations into the incident continue.
Sadiq-Aliyu said the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Ali Umar-Fage, commended residents and members of the local vigilante group for their alertness and cooperation with security operatives.
The commissioner also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly to the nearest police station.
He stressed that continued cooperation between security agencies and members of the public remains essential in the fight against crime and criminality across the state.
