The National Coordinator of Disciples of Jagaban and one of the longest-serving support-group leaders of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Honourable Comrade Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje, has urged Nigerians to place the unity, peace and stability of the country above partisan, ethnic, religious and personal interests ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement, Alawuje called on Nigerians to approach the 2027 elections with caution and a strong sense of responsibility, stressing that the collective interest of the nation should come before the ambitions of individuals, political parties, ethnic groups, religious bodies and political organisations.
He asked Nigerians to reflect on the sacrifices they were willing to make to preserve national unity and peaceful coexistence, arguing that many of the challenges confronting the country could be reduced if citizens genuinely prioritised Nigeria’s collective interest over personal and political considerations.
According to him, Nigeria is greater than any politician or political party, including the APC and PDP, as well as regional and religious identities.
He stressed that no individual’s ambition for political power should be allowed to threaten the unity of the country.
On the 2027 presidential election, Alawuje appealed to Nigerians to consider supporting President Tinubu for a second term if their assessment of his administration convinces them that continuity would allow the government to consolidate its reforms, build on its achievements and tackle existing challenges.
He, however, clarified that his support for Tinubu’s re-election should not be interpreted as a call for unquestioning loyalty or as an attempt to prevent Nigerians from scrutinising government policies.
Rather, he described it as an appeal for citizens to make informed and responsible political decisions.
Alawuje urged Nigerians to consider whether continuity and stability would be more beneficial to the country than another period of political uncertainty and confrontation. He noted that some difficult reforms could require patience and temporary sacrifices before their long-term benefits become evident.
He also urged Nigerians to draw lessons from recent political and economic experiences, particularly the challenges that accompanied the naira redesign and cashless policy implemented under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to him, millions of Nigerians experienced difficulties accessing their legitimately earned funds during the period, while political disputes involving influential individuals and institutions further weakened public confidence in the financial system.
The Tinubu support-group leader warned that political calculations and the pursuit of power should never result in unbearable hardship for ordinary Nigerians.
He noted that market women, traders, farmers, small-business owners, civil servants, students and pensioners are often the ones who bear the greatest burden when political contests become destructive.
Alawuje acknowledged that opposition and political competition are vital to democracy but cautioned politicians against allowing political differences to degenerate into hatred.
He urged political actors and their supporters to embrace disagreements without undermining national unity and institutional stability.
The support-group leader also called on Nigerians to make what he described as necessary sacrifices by rejecting hatred, tribalism, religious intolerance, political bitterness and excessive personal ambition.
He insisted that any support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election must remain peaceful and democratic, while being accompanied by accountability, transparency, respect for the Constitution and protection of citizens’ rights.
According to him, the ultimate victory Nigerians should seek in 2027 should not be the triumph of one political party, region, religion or politician over another, but the emergence of a united, peaceful, prosperous and democratic Nigeria.
He therefore urged citizens to see the 2027 election as a collective responsibility and declared: “Nigeria First.”
