The Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) unveiled its nominees for the 12th edition, with Gingerrr and The Herd leading the pack with nine nominations each.
The nominations were announced on Sunday during a live broadcast across Africa Magic channels, hosted by award-winning actor Chimezie Imo.
To Kill A Monkey and My Father’s Shadow follow closely with eight and seven nominations, respectively.
The nominations underscore a landmark year for African film and television, showcasing a surge in captivating storytelling, exceptional technical craftsmanship, and a notable expansion of narrative scope and diversity.
Gingerrr and The Herd enjoyed commercial success following their release in late 2025, and their nominations reflect their impact on the industry.
In the acting categories, Sola Sobowale garnered dual nominations, vying for top honors in both lead and supporting roles, joined by Uzor Arukwe and Lateef Adedimeji, who also secured multiple nominations.
Genoveva Umeh’s Best Lead Actress nomination marks a breakthrough moment, making her a top contender for the award and spotlighting her as a rising star to watch.
Voting for public categories opened at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, via the official AMVCA website.
The awards feature 32 categories, including 18 jury-decided awards, 11 determined by public voting, and three special recognition honours.
The 12th AMVCA ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, 9 May 2026, with high expectations for a celebration of excellence across Africa’s film and television industry.
