Ijebu Regberegbe Council President, Baba Giwa Odutayo Dies at 88

The President of the Ijebu Regberegbe Council (IRC), Baba Giwa Olori Giwa, Giwa Mushafau Adebayo Odutayo has passed away at the age of 88.

His death was announced on Monday in an official statement issued by the Public Relations Officer on behalf of the Chairman of the IRC Ad-hoc Committee.

According to the statement, the revered community leader died after a brief illness.

Until his passing, Baba Odutayo held the title of Giwa Egbe Olugbadebo Okunrin Akile Ijebu and served as the President of the Ijebu Regberegbe Council, where he played a significant role in the coordination and preservation of the age-grade system in Ijebu land.

The statement further disclosed that the late elder statesman would be laid to rest on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, by 4pm. His Janazah prayer is scheduled to hold at the Ijebu Ode Central Mosque, Ijebu Ode.

Members of the Regberegbe Council, including all Giwas and Iyalodes, have been urged to attend the burial and pay their last respects.

The council described his death as a great loss to the Ijebu community and prayed for Almighty Allah to grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus and give his family the strength to bear the loss.
