The Kebbi State Government has criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Campaign Council for appealing to the 21 professors appointed to lead Local Government Education Authorities in the state, calling the move politically motivated. The government urged the opposition to concentrate on sharing their policy plans with voters instead of targeting these academics.
According to a statement jointly signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Dutsinmari, and Magatakardan Bagudo, Aminu Shehu, the professors’ appointments are part of Governor Nasir Idris’ effort to bring academic expertise to the management of basic education across Kebbi’s 21 local governments.
The government highlighted its successes in education, including declaring a state of emergency on education, renovating over 2,000 primary schools, hiring more than 2,000 teachers, and increasing scholarships for students.
They questioned why the ADC was focusing on the official vehicles provided to the professors instead of important issues like student enrollment, reducing out-of-school children, or teacher performance.
The ADC, which is preparing for the 2027 governorship election with Abubakar Malami as its candidate, has been building support at the grassroots level across Kebbi.
The government also criticized Malami’s tenure as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, accusing him of neglecting Kebbi’s needs and using his position for personal gain, though no evidence was provided.
Praising Governor Idris’ achievements in road construction, prompt payment of workers’ salaries, and infrastructural development, the officials stressed the need for a compassionate and effective leader.
They urged the ADC to leave the professors out of political disputes, emphasizing their administrative role in education reform, and challenged the opposition to present their policies directly to voters instead of focusing on these appointments.
This exchange reflects the growing political competition between the ruling APC and the opposition ADC ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election in Kebbi State.
