The Osun State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has distanced itself from individuals and groups allegedly claiming to represent the party in political negotiations ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
In a statement jointly signed by the State Chairman, Funso Fabiyi; State Secretary, Abraham Bolanle Abayomi; and State Leader, Arc. Goke Omigbodun, the party said it had become aware of reports of “strange individuals and groups” holding discussions with political office holders, political actors and other stakeholders while presenting themselves as representatives of the SDP.
The party described such claims as fraudulent and urged members of the public to disregard any negotiation or commitment entered into by persons acting on its behalf without authorisation.
According to the statement, the Osun SDP remains committed to supporting only its candidates in all elections and has not authorised any alliance or negotiation with other political parties.
The party also reaffirmed its opposition to vote buying and vote selling, describing the practice as illegal and stressing its commitment to credible electoral processes before, during and after elections.
The leadership warned that anyone claiming to represent the party in dealings with other political parties or political stakeholders without its approval was acting illegally and should not be recognised.
