Shallipopi opens up on industry struggles, says experiences made him ‘extra mean’

Nigerian singer Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, has opened up about the challenges he faced while trying to break into the country’s music industry.

The artiste revealed that between 2023 and 2024, he was subjected to ill-treatment by several colleagues, noting that he did not receive the support or acceptance he expected during his early rise.

In a post shared on X, Shallipopi said the experience hardened him, adding that it contributed to his current disposition.

“2023/2024 many artist pour me spit for face…. I mean many, that’s why I’m extra mean, ogun go kill of una one by one as time dey go,” he wrote.

His breakthrough came with the viral success of his hit track Elon Musk, which was later remixed with Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael and Adedamola Adefolahan, further cementing his place in the mainstream.

Shallipopi had earlier credited Zlatan for significantly boosting his career, stating that the rapper gave his music “life” at no cost in October 2023.
